Islamabad: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) won the first prize in the Annual Flowers Show – 2017 held here at Rose & Jasmine Garden. The university maintained its tradition adding colour to the beauty of the capital. Our most excellent performance was the result of hard work and professional commitment of our gardeners, said Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui while addressing them on the occasion of their success. He said the flowers are the part and parcel of our life as they add beauty and fragrance to our gardens, our homes as well our lives.
Dr Siddiqui noted that the university’s gardeners have proved their worth in promoting healthy environment in the federal capital. Lush green gardens and lawns not only added beauty to the surroundings but also had a positive impact on the environment, he remarked.
According to the University’s garden supervisor Abdul Sattar, they had displayed around 900 different verities of ‘Ghule Dawoodi’ at the three-day exhibition that attracted a large crowd. The university will soon come out with new academic programs for promoting research in gardening and horticulture sector. It has set up a botanical garden to promote greenhouse concept.
The garden, to work as open lab will have documented collections of living plants for the purposes of scientific research, conservation, display and education. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui termed the garden as value-added addition of the prevailing research facilities in the University. We will maintain its quality to get the best results, he added.
