Lahore Knowledge Park signs agreement for civil work
LAHORE : Lahore Knowledge Park Company (LKPC) has signed an agreement with Infrastructure Development Authority of Punjab (IDAP) to carry out civil works at the site of Lahore Knowledge Park (LKP).
According to the arrangement, IDAP will be acting as the executing agency for the construction works of LKP in two phases which include security road, entrance gates, civic infrastructure and civic amenities for the development of the park.
LKPC CEO Dr Zafar Iqbal Ghouri and IDAP General Manager Contracts Amir Mirza inked the agreement at the LKPC office. IDAP CEO Mujahid Sherdil and LKPC Chairman Lt- Gen Muhammad Akram were also present.
According to the agreement, construction works will begin at the site of LKP by the end of December 2017 as the tendering process has been completed by the executing agency, IDAP. The civil works under the two initial packages will be finished within eight months, which will enable the company to establish campuses of international varsities and research and development centres at LKP.
Currently, LKPC is working towards hosting a consortium of three Italian universities; Politecnico di Torino, University of Bari and University of Bologna; to set up Pak-Italy University of Engineering Science and Technology. The company is also at a preliminary planning stage with one of the leading British medical teaching hospitals and various Swedish and Chinese universities to set up their campuses at LKP.
Tevta lauds JICA help: The collaboration between Japan International Cooperation Agency and Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) has provided technical education to the youth of Punjab according to the Japanese standards.
Tevta Chairman Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said this while talking to a JICA delegation led by Mayumi Miyata here on Tuesday, according to a press release. He said JICA provided Rs 640 million aid for the students of Diploma in Associate Engineering (DAE) which eventually raised the standard of technical education. Machinery worth Rs 105 million was also handed over to the Government Technical College, Faisalabad, he said. He said the syllabus of technical education was also reviewed by the Japanese experts. Tevta wants to enhance the collaboration in future, he added.
