PESHAWAR: The residents of the provincial capital on Monday faced hardships and traffic jams as the city, like many parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, received second spell of winter rain.

Peshawar started receiving light shower at about 9am.

The predicted rain caused terrible traffic jams along the Rapid Bus Transit (BRT) corridor from Hashtnagri to Islamia College on the main road the mud alongside the corridor dugouts became a huge nuisance for the motorists and pedestrians.

The vehicular traffic continued to move at snail’s pace right from Haji Camp on GT Road to Board through Cantonment due to diversions and one-ways along the BRT corridor.

There was worst traffic jam on the Eidgah Road as the motorists took that road to reach Cantt and University Road. The traffic remained clogged on the road next to Arbab Niaz Stadium as no traffic cops were at hand to ease the situation.

The Dilazak Road saw traffic mess as well traffic has been diverted to the Ring Road from GT Road at the Pir Zakori Flyover since the work on the BRT was launched.

The motorists turn to Dilazak Road from Amn (Dilazak Road) Chowk. There are no traffic wardens at the chowk. Two traffic cops remain present near the girls college but the rest of the Dilazak Road is left at its own by the traffic police that creates problems for the motorists and commuters.

There was a complete traffic mess at the Pakha Ghulam Chowk. It has become a routine as no traffic wardens are deputed at the point to streamline the traffic at this portion of the Dilazak Road which leads to several schools, colleges and a university.

The city was also gripped by cold wave and the temperature dropped to 11 degree centigrade. According to the Met Department, the weather remained cold and cloudy in most parts of the region.

However, rain and snowfall over the hills occurred at scattered places in the region.

It recorded 13melimeter (mm) rain in Cherat, 12mm Balakot, and 11mmin Malam Jabba. Malam Jabba also received light snowfall where the temperature also fell to 4 degree centigrade.

It also recorded 7mm rain in Kakul and Pattan, Peshawar received 10mm rain at about 6pm and Saidu Sharif 6mm, Timergara 5mm, Dir and Kohat (each) 4mm, Kalam 3mm, Parachinar 2mm, and Bannu 1mm, while D.I Khan and Chitral also received light rain.

The predicted rain and snowfall activity could be attributed to a fresh Western Disturbance that is to approach the country.

This system will influence the weather over the country and sky conditions will remain cloudy.

It is also predicted that the Peshawar along with other parts of the region will receive rain today and tomorrow.

While days will remain humid, nights will be chilled. Cold day conditions are likely to be seen in parts of northern and adjoining Central Pakistan.

MANSEHRA: The upper parts of Hazara received rain and snowfall. The rains, which started in Mansehra, Torghar and Kohistan districts in morning continued intermittently all the day.

The mountainous parts of division including Kaghan valley, Siren and Konsh valleys received the snowfall continuously which blocked link roads. Land-sliding was also reported from various parts of division but no causality or damage was caused.

The rain and snowfall brought the mercury down to 8 degree Celsius.

MINGORA: The intermittent rain and snowfall in Swat brought the mercury down and people started shifting to lower parts of the country.
