LOS ANGELES: Canadian Ted-Jan Bloemen and Japan’s Nao Kodaira set world records in winning the men’s 5,000m and women’s 1,000m on Sunday at the speed skating World Cup event in Salt Lake City, Utah.Dutch-born Bloemen clocked 6min 01.86sec to win the 5,000m, shattering the previous world record of 6:03.32 set by Sven Kramer of the Netherlands in Calgary in November of 2007.
