ISLAMABAD: A complete shutdown was observed in Indian-held Kashmir on the International Human Rights Day on Sunday.
The call for shutdown had been given by APHC leaders Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik against gross human rights violations in Held Kashmir. Meanwhile, Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Sardar Masood Khan criticised the world’s silence on atrocities being committed in Held Kashmir. Addressing a human rights event at the Kashmir House, he remarked that half a century had passed, but the United Nations had failed to fulfill its promise to give Kashmiris the right to self-determination. India had been oppressing people in IHK and the world’s silence over the issue was condemnable. “Human rights are being continuously violated in IHK,” he said and added Kashmiri people had been rendered homeless in their own country.
