WBBL: Suzie ton sinks Hurricanes
ADELAIDE: Strikers skipper Suzie Bates (102 off 65) struck the second century of WBBL 2017-18 as Adelaide completed a quick double over Hobart Hurricanes with a thumping 83-run victory at Glenelg on Sunday.
Bates’s century and her 117-run stand for the fourth wicket with Sophie Devine helped the Strikers offset a fine bowling display by Veronica Pyke, who returned figures of 4 for 17 from her four overs. That meant, despite single-digit scores from all other batters, the Strikers were able to post a competitive total of 176 from 20 overs.
Hobart were out of the chase by 6.1 overs after Hurricanes captain Corinne Hall fell to leave her side four down for 29. Thereafter, it was merely a procession of wickets that ended by the 19th over with the visitors bowled out for 93. Only Veda Krishnamurthy and No.10 Katelyn Fryett offered any semblance of defiance while Amanda Wellington starred with the ball for Strikers with 3 for 9 from her four overs.
Brief scores: Adelaide Strikers 176/6 in 20 ov (Suzie Bates 102, Sophie Devine 43; Veronica Pyke 4-17) beat Hobart Hurricanes 93 in 18.5 ov (Veda Krishnamurthy 21; Amanda Wellington 3-9) by 83 runs.
Brief scores: Perth Scorchers 188/6 in 20 overs (Natalie Sciver 84, Lauren Ebsary 37*; Sammy-Jo Johnson 2-24) beat Brisbane Heat 170/9 in 20 overs (Delissa Kimmince 87*; Katherine Brunt 3-23) by 18 runs.
Brief scores: Sydney Thunder 142/6 in 20 overs (Alex Blackwell 58; Ellyse Perry 2-15) lost to Sydney Sixers 146/4 in 18.3 overs (Alyssa Healy 49, Ashleigh Gardner 47; Nicola Carey 1-28) by 6 wickets.
