The number of out-of-school children in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has increased. The 2016 Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) has revealed that the number of out-of-school children in the province has increased from 13 percent in 2015 to 14 percent in 2016.
Poverty is not the only reason for the rising dropouts rates. One of the primary causes of students losing interest in their students is the hostile environment of schools. Corporal punishment is still being practiced in most of the government schools. The authorities must take action and provide a better learning environment for children who do not attend school.
