PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Wednesday said that women empowerment was a key to poverty eradication, building resilient societies and promoting sustainable development.
“It’s an essential component of human development and basic human right,” the chief minister told the inauguration ceremony of “Women Empowerment Policy” at the Chief Minister’s House here.
The function was also addressed by Meraj Humayun, Chairperson, Women Parliamentary Caucus, Jamshed Qazi, country head, Women Welfare Affairs UN and others, said a handout.
KP Assembly Deputy Speaker Dr. Mehertaj Roghani, provincial Minister for Information Shah Farman and provincial ministers, MPAs also attended the event.
Pervez Khattak said the provincial government acknowledged the fact that advancement of women’s rights was a critical precondition for effective and sustainable development. “Therefore, women empowerment is one of the primary focuses of the provincial government which is committed to taking affirmative action to achieve this goal,” he added.
