The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Friday carried out an extensive operation across the Islamabad metropolitan to clear hurdles in way of public movement and smooth flow of traffic.
The CDA sources told 'The News' that the operation was launched by enforcement wing of the civic body in the light of directives of the Supreme Court of Pakistan to remove hurdles from all the roads and streets of Islamabad.
During the operation, the enforcement also used heavy machinery to lift slabs and dismantle iron barriers which were placed and erected to block roads and streets. “We removed blocks and dismantled barriers and removed the remains from various sites to open roads for traffic and movement of pedestrians,” an official who participated in the operation said.
The operation was carried out in Sectors I-8, I-9, G-10, I-10, G-6, G-7, F-6, F-7 and other sectors.
The major activity was seen in streets along service roads of Sectors I-8/2 and I-8/3 where the residents had blocked entrance to almost all the streets in the name of security. “We continued to receive telephone calls to stop operation but we did not stop,” an official said.
With the blockade of roads, the commuters have to take long route to reach other sides of streets and sectors.
During an operation in Sector G-6 near Polyclinic, the boundary wall of the government quarter was partially damaged. The incident occurred when the enforcement team was using buldozer to demolish iron fence which linking with the road was extended up to the footpath.
