Pakistanis shine in Shanghai skills contest

Islamabad: Instructors Aftab Mubarak from Lahore and Fayaz Khan from Peshawar secured second and third position respectively in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Workers Skills Contest in welding trade and won silver and bronze medals.

Workers from more than 33 countries participated in the competition. While congratulating winners, National Vocational and Technical Training Commission Executive Director Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema said Pakistani skilled workers were no less than any other skilled persons of the world and that the victory of Pakistanis in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Workers Skills Contest proved it. He awarded both winners with cash prizes and also gave them mementos.

“Our skilled workers will participate in the next world skills competitions and emerge as winners to do the country proud,” he said. Zulfiqar Cheema said the NAVTTC was a regulatory body for technical education and vocational training in the country.

"We're providing direction, support and an enabling environment to the public and private sectors to implement training for skills development in order to enhance social and economic profiles," he said.
