Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in his recent visit to Karachi directed the National Highway Authority to prepare a feasibility report for widening the Northern Bypass in order to facilitate movement of heavy vehicular traffic from the Karachi Port to the M-9 Motorway.
Sindh Governor Mohammad Zubair said this on Tuesday while meeting a delegation of the All Karachi Goods Carriers Association at the Governor House. The Sindh governor said the prime minister had given this direction so that the goods transport originating from the Karachi Port should not be required to pass through busy arteries of the city’s areas to reach the M-9 motorway.
The governor said construction work on the M-9 motorway’s section between Karachi and Hyderabad had entered its final stage. He said the government had been giving utmost emphasis on building and reviving the civic infrastructure in Sindh to facilitate the goods’ transporters for advancement of business and economic activities in the country.
The governor said it was necessary to complete the basic transport-related infrastructure in the province before completion of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor. The government had been working on the plan to widen and reconstruct roads and improve state of amenities and civic conditions in the areas around truck stands in the city, he added.
The delegation of the goods’ transporters association informed the governor about problems being faced by heavy vehicular traffic to move around the city owing to massive congestion of traffic. They also complained about pathetic civic conditions prevailing in the areas around truck stands.
