Better if issue is resolved by ministers’ resignations: Zafar

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Chairman Senator Raja Zafarul Haq has said that it is better if Faizabad sit-in issue is resolved through resignation of the ministers but the demands from the protesters will be increased.
“There is no harm in tendering resignations by federal government ministers if the move improves law and order situation in the country,” Senator Raja Zafarul Haq said on Sunday.
However, he said that some people feared the protesters’ demands would increase if resignations were taken.
But, the senator said, efforts were made to hold talks with the Faizabad protesters.
While talking to a private TV channel, he said that a detailed session was held between him and the protesters. During the session, formation of a committee (for negotiations) and other matters were discussed, he added.
He is heading the committee formed earlier by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif to fix the responsibility for the introduction of a controversial amendment to the Finality of Prophethood (SAW) declaration for electoral candidates.
Besides Zafarul Haq, Minister for Interior Affairs Ahsan Iqbal and Minister for Climate Change Mushahidullah Khan are also part of the committee.
The committee was formed on October 7 to probe the issue as it had triggered backlash from various quarters even though the mistake was rectified soon after the amendment was made.
However, the committee headed by the senator is expected to present a report related to the controversial amendment to the court on Monday (tomorrow).
