Baboos discuss traffic congestion, alternative routes

PESHAWAR: A meeting at the Civil Secretariat on Friday discussed ways to deal with traffic congestion caused by the construction work on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in the provincial capital.
According to an official statement, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Secretary Information Qaiser Alam and Secretary Transport Kamran Rehman chaired the meeting, which discussed plans in consultation with officials of the Police Department and Peshawar Development Authority (PDA).
The secretary information issued directives to start broadcasting public service messages on regular intervals using the government-run FM Radio Pakhtunkhwa channel, providing details about traffic congestion and alternate routes in the city.
Qaiser Alam directed the officials to start issuing display ads in the print media, highlighting alternate routes to be used in the city in case of traffic congestions arising out of the construction work on the BRT.
The meeting decided to distribute flyers, pamphlets and brochures at educational institutions for awareness.
The secretary Transport directed officials to display area specific alternate routes on signboards and billboards throughout the city in addition to identifying rush hours and devising an effective methodology to divert traffic to alternate routes.
On the occasion, the traffic police officials informed the meeting that they had started using educational mobile vans.
