People face problems due to damage to water and sewerage pipelines

Due to heavy machines and vehicles as well as careless digging of roads at different sites of Metro Bus Project have caused severe damage to water and sewerage pipelines, creating lot of hardships and problems for the people residing along the affected areas. Similarly, due to damaged pipelines water accumulates on the roads leaving almost no place to walk for pedestrians.
A good number of citizens residing across Committee Chowk, Teli Mohallah, Banni, Waris Khan Arya Mohallah told this correspondent that they were hit hard by the ‘improper way’ of implementing the project which had resulted in damages of water and sewerage pipelines all along Benazir Bhutto Road.
Nisar Mahmood, a resident of Committee Chowk along with other residents, alleged that the labourers working on the project while digging the roads have broken water and sewerage pipelines because of which the supply of water has disrupted and the system of sewerage is also affected.
Shahid Abbas and Mehfooz Ahmed, residents of Committee Chowk area, also levelled same allegations saying that though it is a great project being implemented by the Punjab government, however, due to improper planning it has caused immense problems to the people.
Sarfraz Ahmed of Waris Khan making similar complaints against the executors of the project it has posed water shortage and sewerage problems in the entire area.
The concerned authorities of the project as well as
civic bodies including official spokesman, Hafiz Muhammad Irfan, Commissioner Rawalpindi Captain (r) Zahid Saeed, Chairman of Implementation Sub-Committee Hanif Abbasi, while commenting over the views of the citizens agreed the fact that during work on the mega scheme, pipelines of water and sewerage have damaged on some sites.
They said that during enforcement of big projects such types of problems occur and the people suffer but only on temporary basis. However, we are fully aware of the sufferings of people and carrying out work on repairing broken pipelines along with the work on MBP. Our staff remain with the labourers to supervise them about way of working. Pipelines are not broken deliberately but it often happens during digging of roads and streets and problems are being removed accordingly.
Hanif Irfan said that the staff of Wasa is on work to repair the damaged water pipelines. Whereas the authorities which include executors like RDA and the city district government are laying new sewerage and drainage pipelines while replacing the old ones. This would help in improving the entire sewerage and drainage system in Rawalpindi city.
Work on the repair of pipelines and laying of new sewerage and drainage pipes is being done round the clock along with work on the project. The entire works on all the components would be over by end of the current month and the project would be launched shortly.
