Meter system

November 21, 2017
The Sindh government must implement the meter system in taxis and rickshaws so that the people are not overcharged for short distances. Rickshaw and taxi drivers charge twice the actual fare since there is no institution to supervise them. After a failed bargaining attempt, people give in and have a ride in these vehicles and pay exorbitant fares, letting transporters take advantage of the helplessness of passengers.
It is the responsibility of the government to release a fixed rate of fare. It should also make it mandatory that all such vehicles on the road must have fare meters. The traffic police should be directed to stop a vehicle and check if it has the meter. Fines should be imposed on drivers, if no meter is found in a vehicle. A strict implantation of this order will put an end to the misery of the people.
