Sydney shoot down Jets to go top of A-League

SYDNEY: -Defending champions Sydney FC returned to the top of Australia’s A-League and ended the Newcastle Jets’ unbeaten start to the season with a 2-1 win this weekend.
Serbian midfielder Milos Ninkovic and Brazilian striker Bobo scored for the Sky Blues before Dimi Petratos pulled one back for the Jets with a late long-range effort.One-time leaders Melbourne City lost again, this time 3-1 to Brisbane Roar with Greek defender Avraam Papadopoulos scoring a double.
The Roar climbed off the bottom of the standings on the back of City’s defensive errors.Frenchman Eric Bautheac scored the Roar’s other goal just two minutes from the break.German Daniel Adlung’s stunning piledriver equaliser and Ryan Kitto’s dramatic stoppage-time goal completed a come-from-behind 2-1 away win for Adelaide United over the Central Coast Mariners.
The Mariners went into the home match on the back of their first victory of the season, an encouraging 2-0 win over reigning champions Sydney FC.And they took the lead five minutes before half-time, with Dutchman Wout Brama converting a penalty after a Ersan Gulum foul in the box.
The result lifted Adelaide to fifth, four points ahead of ninth-placed Mariners.Melbourne Victory ended their six-game winless run and worst start to an A-League season with a 2-0 win over Perth Glory in Perth on Sunday.
Besart Berisha gave Victory the lead in the 56th minute before Dutchman Leroy George netted 10 minutes later off an assist from Socceroo James Troisi.It was Victory’s first win of the season to move off the bottom of the standings.Western Sydney Wanderers’ home game with Wellington Phoenix was called off over the state of the pitch.
