Seminar, walk highlight diabetes menace

LAHORE :An awareness seminar was held at Community Centre Defence club ‘J’ sector on the occasion of World Diabetes Day.
It was arranged by DHA Medical Centre; DHA Lahore. Administrator DHA Lahore Brig Muhammad Sajid Khokhar was the chief guest.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of the holy Quran followed by a welcome address by DHA Director Medical Services Brig Muhammad Naeem. Principal Post Graduate Medical Institute Prof Ghias-un-Nabi Tayyab and consultants Dr.
Maliha Hameed, Dr. Jawad Bin Yamin, Dr. Ahmed Usman, Dr. Naveed Malik said that early diagnosis and proper management was essential to avoid complications like heart attack, paralysis, blindness and feet problems.
The doctors advised people to approach a qualified doctor instead of using shortcuts for complete cure.Addressing the seminar, Brig Sajid Khokhar said that diabetes is a silent killer.
According to the International Diabetes Federation estimates, the current rate of diabetes is more than 25 percent that would be increased to 40 percent in the next few years. He said that control of diabetes was in the hands of people.
Healthy lifestyle, avoiding junk food, soft drinks and regular exercise are keys to checking diabetes. Every third adult Pakistani is at risk of getting diabetes; he added.An awareness walk was also held at DHA club ‘J’ sector, which was led by Administrator DHA Lahore Brig Sajid Khokhar.
