Traffic police

November 19, 2017
These days, driving on Rawalpindi’s roads has become an uphill task. Traffic wardens are seldom seen at busy crossings and even if they are there, they are usually busy talking with colleagues or glued to their cell phone screens. I regularly visit Chah Sultan and have never come across a single traffic warden in such a congested area. The traffic situation in the area is deplorable. Vehicles remain stuck for hours. The primary cause of the persistent traffic problem is traffic violations committed motorists. Many motorcyclists and drivers drive on the wrong side of the road, making it difficult for the incoming traffic. These violations can also put the lives of pedestrians and other motorists in danger. Keeping in view the prevalent situation, one can safely assume that people display poor civic sense while driving.
Another cause which must be highlight is the fact that traffic signals are usually switched off during rush hour and the traffic is controlled manually by the traffic police. It is time the traffic authorities enforced strict compliance with traffic rules and regulation. Traffic wardens must be deployed at all busy crossings. An awareness campaign should be launched to educate people about the importance of following traffic rules.
