Spurious candies make 14 students ill

TOBA TEK SINGH: More than a dozen students of Government Primary School, Chak 322/JB fell ill after consuming spurious candies at their school on Thursday.
Police said M Arshad, a shopkeeper whose shop is located in front of the school, threw discarded goods including candies outside the shop. During recess, 14 students picked them up and ate. After half an hour, all of them started vomiting and when their condition deteriorated, the school headmistress called the Rescue 1122 ambulance.
All the effected children were shifted to the DHQ hospital. According to doctors, their condition is stable. The children, included Yasir Shakoor, 3, Sumera Karamat, 5, Tayaba Mustafa, 4, Tayyaba Munir, 6, Noor Fatima, 10, Wajid Ali, 12, Asma Parveen, 10, Shumaila Munir, 10, Karishma Jabbar, 13, Saghar Munir, 8, Qamar Abbas, 10, Abeera Ghafoor, 9, and Naila Parveen, 6.
Teachers boycott classes: On the call of Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA), the entire teaching staff of all the government colleges of the district boycotted the classes in favour of their demands.
They took out a rally at Gojra and marched on different roads. It was led by PPLA Faisalabad division vice president Dr Nasr Ummenallah Bhalli and Gojra PPLA president Professor Rana Ijaz Ahmed. They were demanding upgradation of their pay scales and other facilities.
