On the directives of Sindh Minister for Local Government Jam Khan Shoro has said that the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) is making all-out efforts to ensure equitable water distribution to the city, including far-flung areas.
In a statement issued by the KWSB on Thursday, he said efforts were under way to control the acute water shortage in the city and the chief minister was taking personal interest in overcoming the water paucity. All choked sewerage lines were being reopened and so that there was no sewage overflow problem anywhere in the metropolis.
The minister also directed that the KWSB managing director should advise his organisation’s staff, including engineers, to remain in touch with the elected members so that their complaints could be addressed. The water tankers should be provided in those areas where tap water was not supplied, he said.
Treatment plants
In a meeting with industrialists, Sindh Chief Secretary Rizwan Memon said the provincial government was spending billions of rupees for the provision of quality potable water and installation of treatment plants throughout the province.
Memon advised the secretary for industries in Sindh to visit the Kotri Industrial Area with the chief engineer and the SITE secretary to verify the status of the Combined Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) there.
