Teachers upgraded in Punjab

LAHORE :School Education Department on Monday issued notification vis-à-vis upgradation of teaching posts in public schools of Punjab.

According to the notification, primary school teachers posts have been upgraded from BS-09 to BS-14. Similarly, those already working in BS-15 (personal) have been upgraded to Bs-16 while those working in BS-16 (personal) have been granted two annual increments in relevant pay scales. Secondary School Teachers (SST) have also been awarded two annual increments in their relevant pay scales.

This upgradation/grant of increments will be effective from January 01, 2018.  Talking to The News, Secretary Schools Dr AB Malik said teachers were main players to ensure quality education.

He said this raise in grade and salary was long overdue and added Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif very graciously agreed to this proposal of the School Education Department.  Dr Malik, who is UNESCO Confucius Laureate, further said teachers would strive hard to achieve targets of CM School Education Road Map. He added the department was proud of its dedicated and committed teachers.

22 senior registrars appointed at LGH: Secretary Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Department has appointed 22 new senior registrars at Lahore General Hospital (LGH) and a notification has been issued in this regard.

Reportedly, Post Graduate Medical Institute Principal Prof Dr Ghias-un-Nabi Tayyab said that it would help providing up to mark health facilities. New appointees would serve in Neuro, Pediatrics, Plastic Surgery, General Surgery, Medicine, Obst & Gyne and other departments of General Hospital.

Those who have been appointed include Dr Waqas Noor Chughtai, Dr Faiq Sheikh, Dr Muhammad Rizwan, Dr Rabia Iqbal, Dr Rabia Maqsood, Dr Sidra Tahir, Dr Imran Shahzad, Dr Muhammad Nasir, Dr Abdul Qadoos, Dr Uneeba Syed, Dr Naseer Umar Bhatti, Dr Bilal Azim Butt, Dr Bushra Azam Hashmi, Dr Asad UIlah Mahmood, Dr Muhammad Asif, Dr Muhammad Adnan Hasham, Dr Rizwana Tariq, Dr Zahra Safdar, Dr Ayesha Mazhar and Dr Sumaira Fatima.

Special grant to GCU demanded: Executive Committee of Old Ravians Union (ORU) on Monday unanimously passed a resolution requesting Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and the Punjab government to provide a special grant to the Government College University (GCU) in order to maintain the high standards of education and research without resorting to measures like enhancing the fee structure and holding private examinations.

According to a press release, the meeting held at  Government College University was presided over by the ORU President Kazi Afaq Hussain. It was decided that a special committee of Old Ravians Union would call on the chief minister and apprise him of the financial constraints being faced by the university. 

The GCU’s estimated deficit for the fiscal year 2017-18 runs into millions of rupees due to the raise in salaries, pensions and filling of the vacant positions of professors and research scholars, the meeting was informed.

ORU Honorary Secretary Prof Dr Khalid Manzoor Butt told the committee that a number of professors in GCU had increased from four to 18 and associate professors to 34 in the last two years, which had raised the standards of education and research output of the university.
