Change to power supply opposed in Chitral
CHITRAL: The councillors and representatives of the town area on Thursday asked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government not to make changes to the prevailing schedule of power supply to the area.
Speaking at a press conference, nazims of various neighbourhood councils, Manzoor Ahmad, Mir Samad Khan, Maulana Zamir Ahmad and others, said people from outside the Chitral town were demanding restoration of previous power schedule which they said was not realistic.
They said it was agreed before the launch of the two megawatts power house set up by the Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) in Golen Gol, that power from the powerhouse would only be provided to Chitral town.
Nazims said 450,000 population of Chitral town as well as government offices and hospitals were benefiting from the scheme.
They said the residents had heaved a sigh of relief after the provision of power from the project to the town.
They said that any change in the power schedule would result in disrupting the entire power system and affect the routine life in the town.
The nazims said the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) lacked required staff to manage the power system in case of restoring the old schedule as they would have to de-link and re-link all the transformers in Chitral town.
