ISLAMABAD: Akbar S Babar, the founding member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and petitioner of PTI’s foreign funding case, said that embezzlement of billions would be unearthed in the PTI’s foreign funding and Imran Khan would have to face the courts.

Talking to the media after IHC proceedings, he said that Imran Khan had been running from justice and accountability for the last almost 3 years. So far PTI had failed to comply with at least 21 ECP orders, filed 2 stay applications with the ECP and failed, and filed 4 plus stay applications with the IHC to suspend ECP scrutiny of its accounts.

“The long arm of justice is finally catching up with him despite his best efforts to evade    the accountability, he said. Babar said that Imran Khan’s admittance to failure in KP was proof of the disastrous performance for which he was forewarned but to no effect. He suggested that Imran Khan should accept responsibility for the failure of KP government and should resign.

He said that he had no personal enmity with Imran Khan except that he and some other founding members of PTI wanted the party of change to revert to its original agenda.  He said that the only way forward for producing new and credible leadership was by freeing political parties of dinosaurs who was controlling and strangulating merit.

Legal counsel for ECP talking to media said that ECP had twice decided that it had jurisdiction to know the sources of funding of any party and whether it received funds from any prohibited sources. Prior to this Justice Aamer Farooq of the IHC on August 30 dismissed PTI civil miscellaneous (CM) application seeking stay against the proceedings pending against the party at ECP.
