FAISALABAD: A meeting of the District Bar Association (DBA) was held here on Monday and condemned the issuance of arrest warrants for Multan High Court Bar Association president Sher Zaman Qureshi by the Lahore High Court.
The meeting chaired by DBA president Rana Abbas Ali Khan passed a resolution, demanding immediate withdrawal of the arrest warrants for Sher Zaman Qureshi. It decided that the DBA members would continue boycott of the district courts till the withdrawal of the arrest warrants. Later, the DBA members took out a protest rally. Punjab Bar Council member Javed Awan and a large number of lawyers, including M Zubair Janjua, Imtiaz Ahmad, Rana Anwar Ali Manj, participated in the rally.
JARANWALA: Lawyers observed a strike and took out a rally against the police torture on their colleagues in Lahore. The lawyers led by Jaranwala Bar Association president Rana Mehfooz Ahmad and secretary Shahzad Asim Awan chanted slogans against the incident. The protesters marched through the Kutchery Road and reached the Hospital Chowk where they burnt tyres.
Later, the lawyers organised a protest meeting in the bar room. Addressing the meeting, Shahzad Awan, Tanveer Akhtar Chaudhry, Khalid Pervaiz Khokhar, Rana Attiqur Rehman, Imran Danish, Rana Mohsin Qayyum and Arif Khan said that the lawyers were united for their cause. They condemned the issuance of arrest warrants for Sher Zaman Qureshi. They announced complete strike in the tehsil today.
