Onion, garlic rates double ahead of Eid-ul-Azha

LAHORE :Increasing trend was observed in the prices of onion and some other vegetables essential component of meat cooking recipes ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. 

The price of onion has almost doubled in the two weeks time. Besides, the rates of ginger, garlic, coriander also increased. Additionally, surging trend in the prices of other seasonal vegetables also continued. 

The issue of wrong price fixation caused the artificial shortage of these vegetables and open overcharging on these items. The vendors openly overcharged on these vegetables. If someone argues on overcharging, they refuse to sell it. 

Potato new was reduced by Rs2 per kg, fixed at Rs36 to 38 per kg, sugar-free fixed at Rs27 to 29 per kg, and stored at Rs18 to 20 per kg and stored sold at Rs38 per kg as the market committee officials themselves issued this rate to stored variety.

Onion price was further gained by Rs8 per kg, fixed at Rs42 to 44 per kg, rainwater affected was sold at Rs44 per kg. The price of tomato was stable at Rs40 to 42 per kg, while rotten was sold at Rs42 per kg, and good quality tomato was sold at Rs60 per kg.

Garlic China was stable at Rs126 to 130 per kg, and garlic local fixed at Rs111 to 114 per kg, while all variety was sold at Rs140 per kg. Ginger Chinese was reduced by Rs10 per kg at Rs141 to 146 per kg, Singaporean at Rs97 to 100, sold at Rs150 per kg.

The price of brinjal was reduced by Rs2 per kg, fixed at Rs26 to 28 per kg, was sold at Rs30 per kg. Cucumber local was increased by Rs7 per kg, fixed at Rs33 to 35 per kg, and cucumber farm by Rs15 per kg, fixed at Rs48 to 50 per kg, both were missing in the makeshift markets on wrong price issue while some vendors sold without getting price card at Rs70 per kg.

Bitter gourd was gained by Rs12 per kg, fixed at Rs58 to 60 per kg, not sold in makeshift markets. Spinach was reduced by Rs3 per kg, fixed at Rs11 to 12 per kg, not sold on wrong pricing issue. Lemon was declined by Rs15 per kg, fixed at Rs107 to 110 per kg, sold at Rs130 per kg. Zucchini local was increased by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs73 to 75 per kg, sold at Rs80 per kg.

Ladyfinger price was unchanged at Rs58 to 60 per kg, sold at Rs70 per kg. Pumpkin was also stable at Rs38 to 40 per kg. Luffa was gained by Rs15 per kg, fixed at Rs38 to 40 per kg, vendors hid it on wrong price issues while sold at Rs60 per kg. Sweet pumpkin was fixed at Rs4 to 5 per kg, sold at Rs25 per kg.

Arum price was declined by Rs7 per kg, fixed at Rs26 to 28 per kg, sold at Rs30 per kg. Green chilli was stable at Rs48 per kg, sold at Rs60 to 80 per kg. Capsicum was gained by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs43 to 45 per kg, sold at Rs60 per kg. Coriander was reduced by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs270 per kg, sold at Rs400 per kg. Beans were at Rs65 per kg, sold at Rs200 per kg.

Different variety of apples was fixed at Rs38 to 229 per kg, while local was sold at Rs100 to 140 per kg.

Banana A-quality was fixed at Rs63 to 65 per dozen, and B-quality at Rs38 to 40 per dozen but not sold in makeshift markets while outside B-grade was sold at Rs60 to 70 per dozen.

Apricot white A-grade was fixed at Rs97 to 100 per kg, mixed was sold at Rs120 to 130 per kg. Different varieties of mangoes were sold at Rs53 to 135 per kg, while sold at Rs150 per kg. Plump was fixed at Rs140 per kg, not sold there. Peer local was fixed at Rs70 per kg. Hami melon (Garma) was fixed at Rs50 per kg.

Peach A-grade was fixed at Rs126 to 130 per kg, B-grade at Rs73 to 75 per kg, mixed was sold at Rs130 per kg. Grapes Sundarkhani was fixed at Rs155 to 160 per kg, mixed sold at Rs160 to per kg, grapes Bedana at Rs97 to 100 per kg, and grapes black Rs136 to 140 per kg.

Guava rate was fixed at Rs35 per kg, sold at Rs70 to 80 per kg. Sweet lime was gained by Rs15 per dozen fixed at Rs78 to 80 per dozen, not sold in makeshift markets on wrong pricing issue.
