DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Gunmen shot dead a local leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) in the district here on Saturday.

It was learnt that unidentified motorcyclists opened fire on Maulana Attaullah Shah at Bannu Adda.

As per his routine, he stepped out of the mosque to go for a walk after Fajr prayers when he was attacked.

The assailants escaped from the scene without being challenged.

A heavy contingent of the police arrived on the spot after the incident and launched a search operation. However, no arrest could be made.

The body arrived for autopsy at the District Headquarters Hospital in Dera Islami Khan, where the doctors said that the slain had received one bullet in the head that caused his death. The police registered the case and started an investigation.

Meanwhile, JUI-F head Maulana Fazlur Rehman led the funeral prayer of the deceased at Panyala Stadium at 6pm. A large number of JUI-F workers and local people attended the funeral.
