ABBOTTABAD: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Salahuddin Mehsud has said that the police are directly answerable to the public under the Police Act 2017.

Addressing a Police Darbar here on Saturday, the IGP directed the police force to be courteous with the public.

The deputy inspector general Hazara, and district police officers (DPOs) of Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Battagram, Kohistan Upper and Lower Kohistan and Torghar were also present.

The provincial police chief stated that though the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police rendered sacrifices in the war on terror, there were public complaints about the police behaviour.

The IGP said that under the Police Act 2017, the police would get rid of outside pressure but they would be answerable to public through different forums like that of the District Public Safety Commission, Regional Complaint Authority and Provincial Safety Commission.

He said the provincial government was supporting and equipping the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police for security of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

He said that for the last several years, the Police Department had undergone changes and a number of training schools had been established.

The IGP also awarded prizes to several police officers and jawans for their good performance during different police actions.
