Shah, Kalsoom win titles in Junior and Cadet TT Championship

KARACHI: Shah Khan of National Highway Authority (NHA) and Kalsoom Khan of Chromatex won their respective cadet boys and cadet girls singles titles of the Panasonic 24th Junior and Cadet National Table Tennis Championships here at Islamia Club on Saturday.

Army defended the junior boys’ team event title while the cadet boys’ team event crown went to NHA.

Shah Khan whacked Ummam Khwaja of Army 3-1 to win the cadet boys singles title. The set score was 3-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-3.

Meanwhile, in the cadet girls singles final, Kalsoom defeated her teammate Maheen Shiraz 3-2 with the set score of 11-6, 11-13, 10-12, 11-6, 11-5.

Army strongly defended the junior boys team event crown after ousting Sindh 3-0. Faizan Zahoor defeated Hamza Godil 3-1 with the set score of 11-7, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8 while Obaid-Ur-Rehman defeated Furqan Patel 3-1 with the set score of 11-7, 7-11, 11-6, 11-9. Similarly, Fahad Khawaja prevailed over Kaif Riaz 3-0 to complete the rout. The set score was 16-14, 11-7, 11-9.

NHA lifted the cadet boys’ team event title for the second time in a row with a straight 3-0 victory over Railways.

Shah Khan overpowered Shayan 3-1 with the set score of 11-13, 11-4, 15-13, 13-11. Arbaz Anwer overwhelmed Haseeb 3-0 with the set score of 11-7, 11-5, 11-5. Arbaz and Basit defeated Shayan and Haseeb 3-2 with the set score of 11-6, 7-11, 7-11, 11-5, 11-7.

In the junior boys singles semi-finals, Obaid Shah of Army defeated Arbaz Anwar of NHA 4-2 while Fahad Khwaja of Army outgunned Hamza Godil of Sindh 4-1 to reach final.

The pair of Fatima and Maira of Chromatex defeated Hareem and Nimra of Sindh 3-0 to secure junior girls doubles crown.

The junior boys’ doubles title went to the pair of Fahad and Ummam of Army who defeated the pair of Faizan and Obaid of Army 3-1.

The junior girls’ singles and junior boys’ singles finals will be held on Sunday (today) with curtains falling on the four-day slots in which over 100 players took part.
