One dead, 19 hurt as bus rams into height barrier
A man died and 19 others were hurt when a bus carrying guests to a wedding ceremony rammed into a height restriction barrier at the Korangi Crossing Flyover on Friday night.
Korangi Industrial Area SHO Pervez Gujjar said the overcrowded bus with passengers also riding on its rooftop dashed into the recently installed barrier at 10:20pm. The crash left a man dead and 19 others injured. The casualties were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. The hospital’s director, Seemin Jamali, said no woman was among the injured.
A similar incident took place in February 2012 when seven people, including women and children, were killed and several others were wounded in a road accident when a bus rammed into a concrete height barrier, which collapsed on the vehicle.
Like Friday night’s incident, the bus was carrying over 35 passengers to a wedding in Liaquatabad when the collision took place within the Korangi Industrial Area police limits.
