No justice if SC supervises NAB proceedings: Fazl
MULTAN: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) Ameer Maulana Fazlur Rehman has expressed his reservations about the appointment of a Supreme Court judge to supervise the process of reference proceedings against the Sharif family and others.
Talking to the media in Multan on Friday, he said how justice would be done to the aggrieved parties if a court disqualifying a person would start supervising the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) proceedings against him. He said he did not trust the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) as it was formed during the tenure of a dictator.
The bureau was formed to take revenge from politicians, Fazl said. “[NAB] should instead be left to work independently,” he added. About articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution, Fazl said the articles were not wrong, but it was their use that had created a controversy.
Fazl said that no detailed legislation was present regarding articles 62 and 63, adding that the boundaries of articles 62 and 63 should be determined. He said we need to stop the wrong use of the law instead of stopping the way of law.
The JUI-F chief spoke about his party’s terms with PML-N, saying they were allies and would support Nawaz Sharif’s wife Kalsoom Nawaz in NA-120 bye-election. He said being the coalition partner, it is our responsibility to support Kalsoom Nawaz in by-polls.
However, about Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Fazl said the party had no future. They tried to bring western ways in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, but were rejected, the JUI-F chief alleged. About Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), he said his party was neither against a separate province for the tribe people nor opposed to reforms in the region. “We want the issue [of Fata] to be mulled in political and social circles, so that if there are any negative aspects of the matter, they can come to the fore, Fazl added. He said the US was trying to portray Kashmiris’ struggle as terrorism.
