An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday put off the hearing of a case pertaining to provision of shelter to criminals against Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan leader Amir Khan and a former security incharge of sealed MQM headquarters Nine Zero, Minhaj Qazi, until September 15. Both of them were in attendance.

The investigation officer told the court that he had sent a letter to the Mukhtiarkar concerned (revenue officer) and had taken necessary steps in this regard. He said a detailed report would be submitted for the court’s perusal at the next hearing.

Uzair Baloch’s case

An ATC judge expressed displeasure over suspected Lyari gangster Uzair Jan Baloch’s absence at the latest hearing of 12 cases pertaining to an attack on police in Lyari in which several cops were killed.

The court had intended to frame charges against all accused, including Uzair Baloch and Amin Buled. Irked by the key accused’s absence, the court directed the authorities concerned to ensure presence of Baloch and others at the next hearing.

The court, however, have been informed that Blaoch had been handed over to the Pakistan Army on April 11 under the provisions of Official Secret Act, 1923. But the court insisted that the trail against Baloch and others could not be abandoned.

21 years imprisonment

Another ATC sentenced two terrorists to 21 years imprisonment in jail. The court handed down the sentence to Muhammad Sabir and Muhammad Ameen in a case pertaining to possession of illegal arms and explosive material. The two were arrested in 2016 from the area of Super Market police.

Edhi Home robbery case

The expected indictment of alleged robbers who looted R100million from the Edhi Home was moved to September 7 as the prison authorities did not bring a key accused, Jam Ajmal, at the hearing.

However, all other accused who are on bail – Jamshed, Imran, Saleem, Babar Saima Bano and Jam Akhtar – attended the hearing in the court of Additional District and Sessions (South). The case was registered in 2014 with the Kharadar police station.

Smuggling case

A court handed over the custody of Muhammad Imran, his wife Aneela Imran, and daughter Maheen Patel to the customs authorities for interrogation in a gold smuggling case.

The court was informed that the three suspects had tried to smuggle gold worth Rs30 million from Dubai to Karachi. The three were arrested at the Karachi airport.
