CM agrees to allotment of plots to labourers

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has, in principle, agreed to the allotment of plots to the labourers with ownership rights in the labour colonies.

He was talking to a 13-member delegation of the United Labour Federation at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat here, said an official handout.

Secretary Labour, Secretary Workers Welfare Board and others attended the meeting. The president of the United Labour Federation apprised the chief minister of the problems of the labourers. These related to the closure of funding by the federal government for the scholarship of the children of labour community, education, etc.

The chief minister, agreeing to the plot allotment to the labourers with ownership rights, directed the workers welfare board to work out a lawful mechanism in this regard and submit him a report within a week. He called for introducing monitoring and biometric system in the schools of the Workers Welfare Board, arrange training for the teachers and introduce result-based promotion for the teachers.

The board was asked to sketch out a plan for the regularization of schoolteachers.

The chief minister directed for transparency in the working of board. He assured to hold a meeting for the resolution of problems of the labour community relating to the scholarship of their children and other issues at the proper forum and the representatives of the labour community would also represent their community in the meeting.

The chief minister held out assurance to the labour community that he would contact the federal government and the federal ministry of finance for the release of funds to ensure resolution of problems of the labourers.

 The chief minister directed the Workers Welfare Board to initiate steps on emergency basis for the improvement of schools run by the board.

The federation leadership announced calling off the sit-in after assurance by the chief minister.
