Nothing being done to organise Sindh Games

KARACHI: There has been no progress towards holding the 17th Sindh Games, due for the past four years, owing to the lethargic attitude of provincial sports department, ‘The News’ has learnt.

The last time the games were held in 2012. The games are to be held in Karachi but the provincial sports department has failed to set the final dates of the event.

A high official of the Sindh Sports Board (SSB) announced last year that the 17th Sindh Games would be held in Karachi in December (2016), but since then no progress has been made in this regard.

Some allegedly fake sports organisations have organised various sports competitions in different disciplines during the four years. When contacted, a high official of SSB claimed that the Sindh Games would be held within this year, but he avoided giving final dates.

Sources in sports associations alleged that the Sindh Games could not be held during these four years because SSB and provincial sports department were not willing to organise the games.

The province had been without a sports minister for a long time due to which sports events were not organised but even after the appointment of a minister about a year ago, the 17th Sindh Games have not been held.

Sources also said that differences among sports associations and sports department was another reason why the games were not being held. It is not clear so far if the Sindh Games will be held in collaboration with associations or SSB will itself organise the event.
