Candlelit vigil for Dr Ruth
LAHORE: Candle-lit vigil to pay homage to Dr Ruth Pfau was held in Catholic Cathedral Church, Lawrence Road on Tuesday.
People from all walks of life participated and paid tribute to Dr Ruth Pfau, who died on 10th of August, 2017 in Karachi. She started her work in 1960 in Karachi and stayed there until her death. Due to her efforts, Pakistan was declared by the World Health Organisation a leprosy controlled country, one of the first countries in Asia to achieve this goal.
Arch Bishop Sebastian Francis Shaw, Samuel Payara, Samsom Salamat, members from religious, political parties and civil society participated in the programme to pay tribute to the great personality. A title “Pakistan's Mother Teresa” has also been awarded to Dr Ruth Pfau. Arch Bishop Sebastian Francis Shaw said Dr Ruth was a humble woman on the earth who devoted her life to the patients. Arch Bishop thanked the prime minister who ordered that Dr Ruth burial shall be given national respect and honour.
