Senior minister explains steps to improve LG system in KP

PESHAWAR: In view of public complaints and problems, the Local Government Department has decided to set up ‘People Complaint Centre’ and ‘Online Auction System’.

The district and divisional headquarters, including Peshawar, would also be beautified on priority basis, said Inayatullah Khan, Senior Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Elections at a news conference here on Friday.

He said the department had done well to improve the system during the last four years of the coalition government in the province.

The minister said the revenue for tehsil municipal administration had increased during their tenure. Online Human Resource system had been introduced for e-tendering and online data of the employees, he added.

Different sections of the department like records, mapping, building control, resources and assets have been computerized, he said. Recruitment from BS-11 onward was made through National Testing Service, he maintained. 

Flanked by secretary local council board Khizar Hayat, deputy secretary local government Mian Shafiqur Rahman and Mohammad Iqbal, the minister said that revenue from TMAs has been increased from Rs1.5 billion to Rs4 billion.

He said the provincial government had started the process of reward and punishment to improve the performance of the government functionaries. 

He further said that new bus terminals would be established in Mardan, Mingora, Dir and Swabi for which funds worth billions have been allocated. In Peshawar a modern bus terminal would be set up at a vast area of 800 kanals. 

A comprehensive plan has been worked out for sanitation and water supply as well as disposing of solid waste in the provincial capital.
