With a cost of around Rs 1.72 billion, Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has completed the Maulana Shaukat Ali Road Extension Project besides construction of a new full-depth underpass along the Canal Road.
Both the newly constructed road and underpass had also opened for the traffic, said LDA officials, adding the 3.4 km long corridor has linked Johar Town and adjoining localities with Wahdat Road, Allama Iqbal Town and Multan Road. They said it will also serve as an alternative route between Ferozepur Road and Multan Road from Kot Lakhpat to Khark.
The road which is passing through the Punjab University and connecting Wahdat Road is 1.8 km-long will facilitate tens of thousands of vehicles daily besides saving huge sum of amount in terms of fuel cost of the commuters. The network will improve mobility situation and reduce traffic pressure on Morr Bhakkaywal, Campus Bridge, Canal Road and other connecting roads. LDA officials said the new road was a dual carriage way comprising three lanes on each side and service road on either side.
