NOWSHERA: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak said on Saturday that a smear campaign had been launched against the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership to distract them from public service.

Speaking at a public meeting in Badrashi area, he said that the performance of the PTI-led provincial government had unnerved the opposition parties and they started spreading rumours about the party leadership and its government.

Activists of other political parties announced joining the PTI on the occasion.

Pervez Khattak said that the PTI leadership did not take baseless allegations seriously and concentrated their energies on implementing the party’s agenda of change in letter and spirit.

He said that he did not like the politics of personal like and dislike and believed only in public service. He said that it did not matter if someone join or leave the party. “It doesn’t make any difference to the PTI if someone joins or leave the party. We have a clear policy and individuals do not matter in the party,” he added.

Clarifying the corruption allegations against him, Pervez Khattak challenged his opponents to produce proofs of malpractices against him if nay. “I never indulged in corruption. I never misused public money and not let others to misuse fund meant for projects of public welfare,” he claimed.

He said that the PTI-led provincial introduced reforms in the government departments and revamped the decades-old faulty system. He admitted the there was still a lot needed to be done. “The PTI-led provincial government laid down the foundation for a justice-based system and fixed the direction of development,” he added.

He said that the people can feel the change. “The joining of the PTI by the supports of other political parties is showed the public confidence in the performance of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government,” he went on to say. He said the country was bestowed with natural resources and situated at a strategically important position.

He said that the successive governments burdened the country with loans and shifted their capital abroad.

“The country cannot afford corruption and infighting among the state institutions,” he added. He said that honest and dedicated leadership was needed to steer the country out of the prevailing crises and put it on the path to development.

He asked the people to carefully exercise their right to franchise and choose honest leadership to lead the country.
