JHELUM: Police killed a proclaimed offender, having Rs 500,000 bounty, in an encounter here on Tuesday.
Police were taking PO Ghulam Shabbir of Pind Dadan Khan to the court of a civil judge when four unidentified car riders opened fire on a police van near Misri Morr. As a result, Constables Izrar Ahmad and Muhammad Fayyaz were injured while the attackers managed to escape with the proclaimed offender. The accused also took away an official gun of a policeman. On information, Sadr, Chotala and Jalapur Sharif police SHOs with their teams reached the spot and started chasing the PO and his accomplices. Near Chakri village, the culprits stopped their car and tired to climb up hills. On seeing police, the culprits opened fire on them. Police also retaliated. As a result, PO Shabbir was killed on the spot while his accomplices escaped. Police also recovered the official gun from the car. The killed PO was wanted by police in several murder and dacoity cases. Meanwhile, the DPO claimed that the PO was killed by the firing of his accomplices.
