A 50-year-old man was shot dead by unidentified men apparently on a land dispute, at Chamber Street in Mithadar, on Friday.

Mithadar police station’s duty officer, Azhar Ali, said Abdul Ghafar Chishti was on his way home from the City Courts after attending a court proceeding on a land dispute case when he was attacked.

The DO stated that Chishti was rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries. Ali added that the victim was a resident of Gulistan-e-Jauhar and had filed a number of cases against his opponents.

Talking to The News, SP City Shehla Qureshi said the deceased and his opponents had filed several cases against each other. He had apparently also been convicted by a court and had been released on completion of his sentence, the SP added.

SP Shehla said the victim had contracted eight marriages and had nine children and the police was suspecting personal enmity as the motive behind his murder. “However, the police would issue a statement upon completion of investigation,” she maintained. Later, a case was registered at the Mithadar police station in which the complainant nominated four of the deceased’s rivals as his murderers.
