Diplomats take keen interest in SC verdict in Panama case
ISLAMABAD: The diplomatic community of the federal capital is taking keen interest in the judgment of PanamaLeaks case.
The interest suddenly erupted on Thursday evening when the Supreme Court announced schedule for pronouncement of the verdict in the matter. The diplomatic sources told The News late in the evening that a number of the western and neighbour countries diplomats have approached the Foreign Office for facilitation in the apex court to gather first hand information about the outcome of the case.
The sources pointed out that the diplomats have established contact with their ‘contacts’ and ‘sources’ for gathering assessment regarding the verdict. They have informed their respective capitals about the ensuing judgment and alerted them that in few hours’ ultimate decision would be dispatched by them.
The sources said that Chinese leadership is especially disturbed about the development since it doesn’t want to see any harm to the ongoing strategic China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
The Chinese leadership always parries from interfering in the domestic affairs of any other country but it keeps watching the developments with interest.
The sources said that in the case of important countries, their diplomats have already dispatched reports pertaining to earlier proceedings to their capitals but ultimate judgment is keenly awaited in number of capitals, the sources added.
