Over the past few years, Pakistan has witnessed the migration of thousands of people from rural areas to cities and other urban areas. There are various factors which have contributed to the migration. The agricultural sector in rural areas does not provide enough employment opportunities so people choose to migrate to other areas to search for better job opportunities since most well-established companies and firms are located in urban areas. That there is a wide variety of jobs available in urban areas lures the rural population to move towards urban localities.
Other reasons include, but are not limited to, better education and health facilities, improved standard of living, less threats of suffering from natural disasters, etc. Ideally, all areas, either urban or rural, of a country should have an equal number of opportunities for the people. The government must give attention to rural areas as well and carry out some development projects so that the country’s rural areas can also progress.
