Police played tremendous role to restore peace in KP: IGP

MARDAN: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Salahuddin Mehsud said here Wednesday that police had been playing a tremendous role in restoration of peace in the province.

He was addressing a meeting of members of Dispute Resolution Council (DRC), which was attended by elders of Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera and Swabi districts at the Police Lines.

Provincial Minister of Education, Energy and Power Mohammad Atif Khan, Excise and Revenue Minister Mian Jamsheduddin, Swabi District Nazim Ameer Rehman, Members National Assembly Mujahid Khan and Maulana Gohar Shah, Regional Police Officer Mardan range Alam Khan Shinwari and the district police officers of Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera and Charsadda were also present on the occasion.

Mohammad Atif Khan welcomed the police chief in Mardan and said the provincial government had given autonomy to the police force to protect lives, property and honour of the masses.

Mian Jamsheduddin, Maulana Gohar Shah and Ameer Rehman also addressed the meeting and appreciated the performance of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Police.

IGP Salahuddin Mehsud said that he has been striving to improve the police work since he was made head the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police four months ago. He pointed out that from 2014 till now militancy had decreased by almost 83 percent due to the efforts of the security and law-enforcement agencies.

“During the last five months, the crime rate has gone down by 17 percent in the province,” he claimed.

He said that during the period the police arrested 1,300 terrorists after laying hands on evidence against them.

Salahuddin Mehsud felt that the police and masses needed a proper system without which militancy and crime rate could not be eliminated in the province.
