Christians’ role in education, health sectors hailed

Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair on Tuesday hailed the invaluable contributions made by members of Pakistan’s Christian community in the country’s education and health sectors. 

Speaking to a 13-member delegation of the New Apostolic Church led by Reverend John Qadir, Governor Zubair said the services rendered by citizens belonging to different communities, including Christians, had paved the way for the social development and economic progress of Pakistan.

“All of Pakistan owes a debt of gratitude to citizens from different religions, socio-economic backgrounds and walks of life. Their part in the development and progress of this country has been invaluable,” said the governor.

The delegation and the governor also extensively discussed measures being adopted for social, political and economic empowerment of Pakistan’s religious minority groups.

Zubair assured the visitors that special attention was being paid towards development work in areas inhabited by people with limited resources. He asserted that all the problems raised by the delegation in the meeting would be duly addressed and vowed to ensure their timely resolution. 

“The federal government is particularly working on a development roadmap that has economic progress and social uplift as a prime focus," said the governor.

Mentioning that a special development package was in the offing for Karachi, he said Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had taken it upon himself to ensure meaningful development across the length and breadth of Sindh.

“Along with Karachi, funds have also been issued for development works in Jacobabad, Thatta, Hyderabad and other parts of the province,” he said, adding that collective and indiscriminate development was the plan envisaged for the whole of Pakistan.

With particular reference to Karachi, Governor Zubair said restoration of law and order had led to an encouraging surge in investment in the commercial hub and the positive progress was being consolidated on all fronts.

In April this year, Sindh Governor Mohammad Zubair had said that all religious minorities living in the province would  be protected at all costs. 

“Not only are the minority communities independently carrying our their religious activities, but the government has also ensured their due  representation from the federal level to the local  bodies," he had said in a meeting with Bishop Sadiq Daniel.
