This refers to the letter, ‘An important case’ (Jul 23), by Muhammad Naeem Ashraf. The writer is absolutely right. Derogatory remarks made by member of a political party can tarnish the image of the country. Supplementing the views expressed by the writer in his letter, I’d like to add the following points. Voters should take a serious view of the disgraceful conduct and derogatory remarks passed by their party workers and should not cast their votes in their favour in the future.
They should cast their votes in favour of candidates who possess high standards of morality and behaviour, which is the basic requirement for the successful functioning of democracy. The concerned authorities should also disqualify those who openly use foul language for their opponents from contesting elections.
