The funeral prayers for the three law enforcers who were gunned down a day earlier in District Korangi were offered on Saturday at the Garden Police Headquarters.

In the second terror strike in the city within the span of a month, half a dozen gunmen had targeted a police mobile near the Jamia Darul Uloom on Friday, leaving three cops dead.

A 10-year-old boy was also killed in the attack that was carried out in the evening. A similar hit had left four policemen dead in the Site Area on June 23.

ASI Qamruddin, constable Babar Ali and head constable Afzal of the Awami Colony police station were conducting routine snap-checking when six men on three motorbikes pulled up near their van and the three pillion riders opened fire on the police vehicle.

Their funeral was attended by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Information Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Pakistan Rangers Sindh Director General Maj Gen Muhammad Saeed, Sindh police chief IGP AD Khowaja, Karachi police chief Addl IGP Ghulam Qadir Thebo and others.

A special police squad presented the guard of honour to the slain law enforcers and laid floral wreaths on their graves. IGP Khowaja paid tributes to them and condoled with their family members.

He assured the families of the policemen that the people responsible for their murders would be arrested soon, saying that such dastardly actions could not lower the morale of the police force.

The police chief vowed that the law enforcers would continue their targeted operation against criminals and no cop would hesitate to make any sacrifice for the sake of the lives and properties of citizens.

IGP Khowaja announced compensation of Rs5 million each for every slain policeman’s heirs as well as a job in the police department for one member of each family.

He asked his subordinates to ensure provision of all the due incentives to the legal heirs of the deceased policemen and instructed them to complete all the relevant matters immediately.
