IoBM founder Shahjehan Karim remembered

KARACHI: Institute of Business Management (IoBM) Founder and President Shahjehan Syed Karim passed away in Karachi on Monday. His funeral prayers and burial took place on Tuesday at the IoBM campus in Karachi’s Korangi Creek area. His funeral was largely-attended by students, faculty, management, staff, alumni, members of the Board of Governors and those from the corporate sector, according to IoBM Public Affairs Section.

Shahjehan Karim was well-known for his pioneering role in education as well as his career in the Civil Service of Pakistan and with the United Nations.

He joined the Civil Service of Pakistan in 1957 and contributed to it for for over 37 years, holding a number of senior positions with the Government of Pakistan, including Federal Secretary Information, Chairman PTV and PBC, as well as with the Government of Sindh from where he retired as Chief Secretary in 1994. He also worked with the United Nations as an International Civil Servant for almost a decade.

He was a graduate of the University of Arizona, USA, and also studied Public Administration at the Cambridge University, UK; Transportation Management at the University of British Columbia, Canada, and was a fellow of the Economic Development Institute of the World Bank.

Under his noble and humble guidance, IoBM has been rated as one of the top institutions in Pakistan by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. The institute has been an active member of the International Association of Universities (IAU), International Association of University Presidents (IAUP), Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and is also associated with several other international academic organisations.
