Power breakdown in New Katarian

Rawalpindi: A power transformer installed in New Katarian developed a fault in wee hours of Sunday night due to which the residents spent a sleepless night as the supply of electricity was restored only after four hours by the concerned authorities.

"It seems we are still living in the past when we used to see power failures without having any chance of restoration of supply of electricity for long hours. We lodged complaint with the concerned authorities when the transformer went out of order after an explosion. But no one bothered to rectify the situation as we spent many hours without electricity," said Munir Ahmad, a resident of New Katarian (F-Block).

He said: "I made number of phone calls to the office of the concerned authorities but no one picked up the phone. Then we visited their office at College Chowk and lodged the complaint of power failure."

Chaudhry Asad, another resident, said it is really surprising to witness that no one took notice of the power failure and the people spent hours without electricity amid claims by the government about good governance in the province.

"I want to ask a simple question whether there is any check and balance when it comes to the performance of the government employees. The government must give some attention to bring improvement in the functioning of the public sector departments," he said.
