Residents live in fear of monsoon floods
Rawalpindi :The residents of the low lying areas have hoped that the relevant authorities would take effective measures to avoid floods in the Nullah Leh during the monsoon season.
"Almost every year we face this kind of situation but now we hope that the relevant authorities are well aware of our problems and can take measures to avoid flood in the Nullah Leh during the monsoon season," said Saleem Butt, a resident of Dhoke Najju.
He said garbage reduced the width of Nullah Leh at number of points, which has not been restored to its original position, adding "The water route of Nullah Leh must be restored to its original position to ensure smooth flow of rain water." It is pertinent to mention here that most of the low-lying areas do not have proper road network to help bring heavy machinery close to Nullah Leh that is why relevant departments are apparently helpless in removing waste material from these areas.
The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) has taken steps to enhance public awareness on situation that increases flood risk and to develop and gear up overall capabilities of the departments to manage flood related disaster.
