People in Shinkiari block KKH in protest against power cuts
MANSEHRA: The people in Shinkiari took to the streets on Sunday and blocked the Karakoram Highway (KKH) against prolonged and unscheduled electricity loadshedding.
The angry protesters chanting slogans against the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) blocked the KKH to traffic for over an hour by setting used tyres on fire. The protesters mostly youngsters raised slogans against the federal government and Wapda.
They also exchanged harsh words with motorists who got stuck in traffic because of blockade of the main artery that links Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Gilgit-Baltistan. The protesters said the government had failed to honour its commitments about bringing an end to loadshedding. "We want an end to the prolonged and unscheduled loadshedding," a protester demanded. The protesters dispersed when a contingent of the police arrived to reopen the road to traffic.
