An anti-terrorism court on Friday allowed Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar to travel abroad for an official visit.
The court was hearing a petition filed by the mayor, who is nominated in a case pertaining to facilitating medical treatment of terrorists, seeking permission to travel to Russia for an official tour.
The mayor submitted in the plea that he wanted to visit Russia for a total of eight days for official work. Accepting Mayor Akhtar’s plea, the ATC judge told him the permission would be conditional to a deposit of surety bonds worth Rs20,00,000. A letter had also been sent to the FIA regarding the mayor’s appeal.
